BALTIMORE, Md. – Freshman Shanice Grant grabbed second in the heptathlon as the LIU Brooklyn women's track and field team scored 42 points at the two-day Morgan State Legacy meet that wrapped up on Saturday. The Blackbirds placed ninth in the field of 25 team.
Grant scored 4,526 points in the heptathlon to grab second place overall. Her best event was the heptathlon 100m hurdles, which she took first in 14.15 seconds, beating the rest of the field by almost half a second.
In the 100 meter hurdles, freshman Ja'Mesha Richard finished third overall with her time of 14.09 seconds and junior Camille Thomas followed in fourth place with a time of 14.56 seconds.
Senior Dottie Vea represented the Blackbirds in the hammer throw, finishing in second place overall, with a final throw of 47.00m. Vea also finished in the top eight in the shot put, with her throw of 12.21m.
The 4x100 meter relay team of freshman Anise Cuffee, sophomore Bryanna Williams, senior Amber Mitchell, and sophomore Shakia Williams placed fourth with a time of 47.09 seconds, while the 4x400m squad of sophomore Katrina Anderson, Josephine Watson, Cuffee, and Williams came in seventh with a time of of 3:57.25.
In the 200m dash, Bryanna Williams raced to a 25.01 while Shakia Williams (25.17) and Watson (25.81) also completed the race.
In the 400 meter, Anderson placed highest for the Blackbirds with a time of 57.80, while sophomore Brittany McClain crossed the finish line in 1:01.09.
In the 400 meter hurdles, freshman Alea Stevens ran the fastest time for LIU with a time of 1:05.12, followed by sophomore Marielena Rivera (1:09.36), senior Tiffany Parker (1:09.77), and sophomore Simone Epps (1:11.82).
In the long jump, Carter had a final jump of 5.16m and freshman Kyaira Wright-Harmon leapt to a mark of 4.67m. In the triple jump, Wright-Harmon recorded a jump of 10.79m, followed by Carter's mark of 10.62m.
In the discus, Brooks finished in the event with her throw of 33.79m and Miller held her own with a 28.89m. Brooks also competed in the shot put with a final of 11.21m, with Miller hurling a 10.36m.
Next up for the Blackbirds is the Penn Relays, held in Philadelphia, Pa. starting on Wednesday, April 24.
