BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The LIU Brooklyn men's soccer team hits the road this week for two away matches. The Blackbirds face Columbia on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 7:00 p.m. before heading to Fairfield Saturday, Sept. 28th at 7:30 p.m. Live stats are available for both games above.
ABOUT THE BLACKBIRDS:
The Blackbirds traveled to Rider last Wednesday and held their own for 106 minutes, but the Broncs were able to score the game-winner deep into second overtime to come away with the victory.
The following Friday, LIU Brooklyn returned home to LIU Field to face Houston Baptist. Junior forward Brice Merwine registered his first goal of the season and the Blackbirds' third of 2013 in the 25th minute, but the Huskies answered with two consecutive goals in the 82nd to win the match, 2-1. Redshirt freshman Logan Keys made his debut for LIU Brooklyn in goal, and recorded nine saves.
As a team, LIU Brooklyn ranks second in the Northeast Conference in saves with 36, and is tied for fourth in shutouts with two. The Blackbirds also have only committed offsides seven times this season, less than any other member in the NEC.
On an individual level, sophomore midfielder Tanner Sica is fourth in the conference in both shots (21) and shots per game (3.00), while senior goalkeeper John Connolly is No. 2 in saves (27) and save percentage and third in saves per game and shutouts.
SCOUTING COLUMBIA:
The Lions are currently 3-2 on the season, with their most recent win coming against Northeastern. Columbia previously beat Manhattan, a team LIU Brooklyn defeated earlier this season. David Najem leads the Lions and is tied for first in the Ivy League with four goals this season.
ALL-TIME SERIES:
The Blackbirds are 9-11-4 against the Lions. The two teams met last year, resulting in a 0-0 tie after a double overtime game. LIU Brooklyn's last win came in 2008.
SCOUTING FAIRFIELD:
The Stags (3-1-1) are coming off of a 3-1 win to UMass Lowell. Fairfield has recorded six goals this season, though two of those have been penalty kicks. The Stags have been outshot by opponents so far this season, 39 to 57.
ALL-TIME SERIES:
The Blackbirds are looking for their first win against Fairfield, as they are 0-3 in program history. LIU Brooklyn fell in a close 1-2 overtime match in the teams' meeting last season.

The Blackbirds round up their road trip when they travel to Army on Tuesday, Oct. 1 before returning home the following Saturday to wrap their non-conference schedule with a 2:00 p.m. tilt against Howard.
