NEW YORK, N.Y - The LIU Brooklyn men's soccer team fell in a non-conference match to Columbia Wednesday night on the road, 3-0. Redshirt freshman Logan Keys made eight saves during the game.
Columbia took the first shot of the match in the in the seventh minute, but the Blackbirds responded with two consecutive shots from junior defender Andre LeBlanc and sophomore midfielder Nahuel Medina.
LIU Brooklyn spent much of the first half on defense, not allowing any of the Lions' 15 shots to find the back of the net. Keys started in goal for the Blackbirds and made four saves to keep the score at 0-0 headed into halftime.
Columbia started the second half on the offensive attack, firing three quick shots within the first four minutes. The Lions found the 1-0 edge in the 51st minute when an shot from from Ron Zori hit the post and allowed for a rebound header from Will Stamatis past Keys into the net.
Junior defender Jacob Smith and sophomore midfielder Brian Alumbaugh both had shot opportunities in the 61st minute, but the Lions quickly found the back of the net again when his shot bounced off the post and into the goal.
Junior midfielder Nick Caveretta and senior defender Matt Mummert then took the first shots on goal of the night for the Blackbirds, but Columbia responded with their third goal of the night from Nicholas Pappcena.
LIU Brooklyn managed to stave off the Lions to keep the final score at 0-3. The Lions held the shot advantage 30-6.
