BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The LIU Brooklyn men's soccer team finishes up a three-game road trip when it travels to Army on Tuesday for a 7:00 p.m. matchup with the Black Nights. The Blackbirds then return home for the first time since Sept. 20 on Saturday, Sept. 5 to host Howard at 2:00 p.m to wrap up the non-conference portion of the season.
ABOUT THE BLACKBIRDS:
LIU Brooklyn is coming off a 1-1 week, falling first to Columbia last Wednesday. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Logan Keys made eight saves during the match, and held the Lions to a scoreless first half.
On Saturday, the Blackbirds made the trip to Connecticut to face Fairfield, who were previously ranked seventh in the NSCAA regional poll. Freshman Kevin Lockhart scored the game-winner for LIU Brooklyn in the 89th minute, and the team won its second game this season. Senior goalkeeper John Connolly also had five saves. Both victories have come on the road in 2013.
In the conference, Tanner Sica ranks fifth in shots with 23 and sixth in shots per game with 2.56. Connolly is second in saves with 32, third in save percentage and saves per game, and fifth in goals against.
SCOUTING ARMY:
The Black Knights are 6-1-1 on the season, with their only loss coming to Houst Baptist, a team LIU fell to earlier this year. Army and LIU Brooklyn have both defeated Manhattan 2-0 this season as well. Ethan Spivack leads his squad with three goals on the season, while Nick Williams has chipped in two. Winston Boldt has seven shutouts on the season as goalkeeper
ALL-TIME SERIES:
The Blackbirds are 0-2 all time against Army. The teams last met 20 years ago in 1993.
SCOUTING HOWARD:
The Bison are currently 0-9, including two defeats from NEC members Saint Francis University and St. Francis Brooklyn. Rahman Alarape has scored two goals this season for Howard to lead the squad.
ALL-TIME SERIES:
LIU Brooklyn leads the series 3-2-1 against the Bison. During their last meeting, the Blackbirds fell 2-1 in overtime.
UP NEXT:
The Blackbirds begin Northeast Conference play on Oct. 11 at Central Connecticut at 7:00 p.m. before they begin a three game homestand on Oct. 18 with matches against Robert Morris, Saint Francis University and Bryant.
