BROOKLYN, N.Y. - LIU Brooklyn men's soccer senior forward Brice Merwine was named the U-ADE/Northeast Conference Co-Player of the Week, it was announced by the conference office Monday. It is the first weekly conference honor of his career.
Merwine led the Blackbirds to a 2-1 victory over preseason NEC favorite Central Connecticut on Friday night at LIU Field, in both team's league opener.
His first marker came just two minutes into the first half when the senior forward dove for the header off of a cross into the box from teammate Keaton Sprague. With just under 20 minutes left to play in the opening stanza, Merwine would score another goal to put LIU up 2-0 heading into the break. The senior now has nine goals on the season, which currently ranks him fifth in the nation in total goals this season.
The Blackbirds return to action next Friday, when they begin a three-game road trip, starting with Robert Morris at 3:00 p.m. on Oct. 17.
