BROOKLYN, N.Y. - LIU Brooklyn women's tennis senior Sanne Louwers was named Northeast Conference Player of the Month, it was announced by the league office Tuesday evening.
Louwers, the reigning NEC Player of the Year, is back playing at an elite level in this her senior year. She recently won the Flight "A" title at the Navy Invitational and also advanced to the second round at ITA Regionals to wrap up the fall season. After a first round bye, she beat Longwood's Malin Allgurin, 7-5, 6-4, to reach the semis at Navy. Louwers then moved on to the title match by securing a 7-5, 4-6, 10-5 win over Towson's Lucy Williams. In an all-LIU final, the Nuenen, Netherlands product beat fellow first team All-NEC player Marine Dans, 4-6, 7-5, 10-4, to take the crown. Louwers and Dans also advanced to the "A" doubles finals by defeating teams from Seton Hall and Towson before falling against Delaware, 8-6, in the championship.
At ITA Regionals, Louwers beat Sacred Heart's Katie DeRienzo, 7-6, 6-3, in the main draw before falling to defending champion Kanika Vaidya from Columbia.
