BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU Brooklyn men's soccer team returns to LIU Field on Friday, Oct. 10 to host Central Connecticut in the Northeast Conference opener at 6:30 p.m. Live stats and video are available above.
LAST TIME OUT:
The Blackbirds concluded their non-conference schedule on Saturday at La Salle. LIU Brooklyn played the Explorers to a 0-0 tie at the end of regulation, before a penalty kick three minutes into the first overtime gave La Salle the 1-0 victory. Senior David Nuernberg had five shots, with one on goal during overtime, while goalkeeper Logan Keys made six saves.
ABOUT THE BLACKBIRDS:
LIU Brooklyn heads into conference play with 12 goals scored in its nine games—already more than its 11 total goals last season. They average 1.33 goals per game to rank fourth in the conference. The Blackbirds also rank fifth in assists per game with 0.78, largely in part because of junior midfielder Tanner Sica, who is at the top of the field with 0.56 per game, with five assists through nine games. Senior forward Brice Merwine remains one of the sop scorers in the conference, with seven goals and 0.78 per game.
ABOUT THE BLUE DEVILS
Central Connecticut is 4-5 on the season, most recently falling to Dartmouth 3-1 on Tuesday. All four of its victories have been by scores of 1-0. The Blue Devils average 1.1 goals per game, with a 0.116 shot percentage and 9.6 shots per game. Eight different players have scored the team's 10 goals, with Keir Hannity and Ryan Taylor each adding two.
