BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU Brooklyn women's tennis team dropped its second match of the season Friday at the National Tennis Center, falling to St. John's, 6-1. The Blackbirds, playing without a full roster due to injury, forfeited a singles match and a doubles match to the Red Storm before the teams stepped on the court. LIU fell to 0-2 on the season, while St. John's improved to 4-1 overall.
 
In doubles, St. John's, with a match advantage already, needed only to win one doubles match to take the point, and the Red Storm did that in the No.2 spot, where Yanita Arnaudova and Anna Morozova beat junior Katya Yegoreychenko and freshman Marine Dans, 6-0. With the doubles point clinched, the No.1 doubles match stopped, where junior Sanne Louwers and senior Lisa Maas were tied, 3-3 with Khrystyna Pavlyuk and Diamond Adams.
 
With the forfeit in the No.6 singles spot, St. John's started the singles matchups with a 2-0 team advantage. The Red Storm made it 3-0 when Maas fell in the No.2 spot to Nastya Polyakova, 6-2. 6-0. Louwers got the Blackbirds on the board next, as she had a win in the No.1 singles spot, beat Pavlyuk with ease, 6-1, 6-0.
 
From there, however, St. John's had wins at Nos. 3, 4 and 5 singles to take the team victory. Dans fell at No.3 singles to Morozova, 6-1, 6-2, while Yegoreychenko lost to Adams at No.4, 6-0, 6-2. And the Red Storm took the team's sixth point at No.5 singles, where freshman Isabella Wagener lost to Arnaudova, 6-3. 6-4.
 
Up next for the Blackbirds is some time off. A match with Saint Peter's, originally scheduled for February 15, has been postponed due to weather conditions that affected facilities. The next LIU match will take place Saturday, February 22, as the Blackbirds host Rhode Island at Queens College. First serve is at 12 p.m.
