BROOKLYN, N.Y - LIU Brooklyn men's soccer player Nathan Stockie has signed with Jippo, a professional soccer team located in Joensuu, Finland.
The club plays in the Ykkonen division, the second highest league in Finnish soccer. Last season, the team finished eighth in the league.
A graduate student, Stockie recently finished his last season as a goalkeeper for the Blackbirds. He played in 15 matches in 2012, and recorded 92 saves. He also averaged 6.20 per game, to rank fourth among NCAA Division I keepers. He also had the most saves in one contest in the Northeast Conference in 2012, stopping 15 versus Quinnipiac, and also recorded two shutouts.
Stockie is also a member of the LIU honors program and has been named to the NEC Academic Honor Roll several seasons.
"This was one of my dreams growing up as a kid to play professional soccer," said Stockie. "This is a great opportunity to play at yet another high level, test myself and keep pushing myself further."
