NEC Release
BROOKLYN, N.Y. - LIU Brooklyn women's tennis freshman Marine Dans has been named the Northeast Conference Player and Rookie of the Week, after a strong spring break in Puerto Rico. It is the first set of conference honors for Dans, who joined the Blackbirds squad in January.
Dans posted a perfect 4-0 singles mark at the #3 singles spot last week, dropping just one set in the process. She rolled past Elena Melian, 6-0, 6-2, in LIU Brooklyn's 7-0 shutout of Saint Peter's last Thursday. Dans secured LIU's lone point last Saturday with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 win over Toledo's Pia Rygh, and did the same on Monday with a 6-0, 6-3 triumph over Saint Joseph's Kelly Mulquin. Dans wrapped her week by beating Bryant's Rosie Bird, 6-4, 6-3, to help the Blackbirds rally from a 3-0 deficit and win their first NEC match of the season. The Waterloo, Belgium native is now off to a 6-1 start in singles play to begin her LIU career.
The Blackbirds will migrate back north to continue dual match play. Up next for LIU is Colgate, Friday, March 21. The two teams will face off in a neutral site match at Army, with a time to be determined.
