STAMFORD, CONN. – The LIU Brooklyn women's tennis team notched its fourth straight dual match win Saturday evening, as the Blackbirds beat Fairfield, 4-0. LIU now stands at 5-5 overall, 1-0 in the Northeast Conference.
In doubles, LIU won the point easily, taking wins at Nos. 2 and 3. In the No.2 spot, junior Katya Yegoreychenko and freshman Isabella Wagener beat Allison Radde and Kaila Nelson, 8-5. And in the No.3 spot, junior Nancy Zonneveld and freshman Marine Dans teamed up to beat Karen McKeough and Emma Samson, also by a score of 8-5. In the No.1 doubles spot, junior Sanne Louwers and senior Lisa Maas were leading their match, 5-4, when it was stopped because the point had been clinched.
Singles followed the same pattern, with LIU winning three quick singles matches to clinch the team victory, and the rest of the matches stopped play. In the No.3 spot, Dans downed Radde, 6-0, 6-2, while Zonneveld beat McKeough in the No.5 spot, 6-1, 6-1. Junior Brittany Thompson had the final win of the day, as she beat Stephanie Ziegler, 6-1, 6-0 in the No.6 singles spot.
Louwers, Maas and Wagener all had matches that were stopped in the second set once the team points were clinched.
Up next, the Blackbirds will take on defending NEC champions Fairleigh Dickinson in Hackensack, N.J., Monday, March 31 at 3 p.m.
