BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU Brooklyn women's lacrosse team heads to Fairfield, Conn. this Friday, April 18 to take on Sacred Heart for its last regular-season away game at 3:00 p.m. Live stats and video are available above.
"We are looking to take momentum and confidence into this weekend's game verus Sacred Heart," said LIU Brooklyn head coach Allison Nuzzi. "I am proud of our team's resilence."
LAST TIME OUT
The Blackbirds got their first Northeast Conference win of the season against Mount St. Mary's on Sunday by a score of 12-8, backed by five points from Jenn Peters, four goals from Tori Shinkowitz and nine saves from Alexis Maldonado. They fell to Wagner on Friday evening.
Peters is third in the conference in points per game with 3.31, and sixth in assists with 0.92. She also second in shots at 6.62. Maldonado is second in the conference with 9.00 saves per game
ABOUT LIU BROOKLYN
The Blackbirds are now tied for the fifth spot in the conference with three other squads with a 1-3 conference record. They are one game out of the fourth spot, with the top four teams moving on to the NEC Championship. LIU is also 3-3 at home this season, where the team will play its final two games.
"We have worked to maintain our areas of strength while staying loose this week," Nuzzi said. "Sacred Heart is a big rival and we know at this point in the season it is important to come ready on game day."
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
Sacred Heart currently has an identical 1-3 conference record. The Pioneers fell to Mount St. Mary's, but defeated Saint Francis U., a squad that the Blackbirds lost to in double overtime.
Senior Shelby Vaccaro leads both SHU and the NEC in scoring with 34 goals, 12 assists and 46 points. Freshman Caitlin Delaney is second with 17 goals, and leads in groundballs (34), draw control (28) and caused turnovers (19). Goalkeeper Kelly Keenan has a 13.08 goals against average.

LIU returns home next for its final two games of the regular season. First up is Bryant at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 25, followed by CCSU on Sunday, April 27 at 12:00 p.m. to close out the season.
