BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The LIU Brooklyn women's cross country team begins its 2014 campaign this Friday, Aug. 29 at the Lehigh Invitational hosted at the Goodman Campus cross country course in Bethlehem, Pa.
The Blackbirds join host Lehigh, Delaware, Desales, Moravian, Muhlenberg, Scranton, Ursinus and West Virginia in the 6K race.
Head coach Janine Davis leads a team of seven in 2014, including senior Katrina Anderson. Anderson, a member of the LIU Brooklyn track and field teams, owns three track program records. She also was a three-time NEC champion during the 2013-14 season.
"This season is an educational process for all of us," Davis said. "Our main focus is on development and getting used to the training. Class began about two weeks ago and our first exam is tomorrow."
The Blackbirds will compete in 10 events this fall, with four meets taking place at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. They and the nine other Northeast Conference teams will converge on Nov. 1 for the NEC Cross Country Championships, hosted by Central Connecticut at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, Conn.
"We have no previous season to compare our results to," Davis said. "However, we have thought about how we want to set ourselves up for the future. Tomorrow is the start of a new beginning. We are nothing less than excited."
Start time for the Lehigh Invitational is set for 5:30 p.m.
