BALTIMORE, Md. – The LIU Brooklyn men's soccer team fell to No. 19 UMBC, 4-0, on Friday evening. Redshirt sophomore Logan Keys made 8 saves.
The Retrievers got on the board early, scoring eight minutes into the game. Keys made a save on a header shot moments later, but UMBC found the back of the net again in the 10th minute.
The Blackbirds had their first chance in the 12th minute on a shot from senior Brice Merwine. Merwine had header attempt six minutes later from a corner kick from sophomore Ryan Herold, but the ball found the hands of the UMBC keeper.
UMBC would score once more to go up 3-0 at the end of the first half. The Blackbirds had a number of corner kicks in the 53rd minute but could not convert those into a scoring opportunity. Senior David Nuernberg took the second LIU shot of the game in the 63rd minute but the ball sailed high. Junior Tanner Sica also had a third shot on goal for LIU in the 79th minute.
The Retrievers would score once more in the 80th minute to seal the score at 4-0. UMBC held the shot advantage, 21-4.
Up next, LIU Brooklyn heads to Newark, Del. on Sunday, Aug. 31 for a match against Delaware. Game time is at 1:00 p.m.
