BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU Brooklyn men's soccer team hits the road on Wednesday, Sept. 17 to face NJIT in Newark, N.J. at 7:00 p.m. Live stats and video are available above.
LAST TIME OUT
The Blackbirds played their third of three straight home games last Friday evening against Columbia. LIU fell in a close 3-2 decision, as senior forward Brice Merwine scored his third goal in three games to put the Blackbirds on the board. Junior midfielder Tanner Sica also had his third assist in three games. Newcomer Naeem Charles scored his first career goal on Friday, while sophomore Raffi Gregorian recorded his first career point with an assist.
ABOUT THE BLACKBIRDS
With five goals on the season, Merwine is tied for sixth in the country in total goals, and tied for fourth with 1.00 goals per game. Sica is also tied for 21st for total assists, with three. Merwine is tied for first in the conference in goals and goals per game, and second in shots per game, points and points per game. Sica is tied for first with three assists, and second for assists per game at 0.60.
The Blackbirds as a team are tied for second with Bryant in the NEC with seven total goals, and third in goals per game at 1.40 and points with 18.
SCOUTING THE HIGHLANDERS
NJIT is 2-2-1 to start out the year, and has wins over Jacksonville and Marist. In their last game, the Highlanders played to a 1-1 tie with Fordham. Cristian Marcel leads the team with two goals on the season, while Danny Cordeiro has two assists. Goalkeeper Christan Foust has a 1.55 goals against average, and .724 save percentage.

LIU Brooklyn is 4-4-1 against NJIT. The Blackbirds last defeated the Highlanders, 4-3, in overtime in 2010. The two squads last met in 2011, and played to a 0-0 tie.
