Complete Draws
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The LIU Brooklyn women's tennis team opened its fall tournament schedule this weekend, taking part in the 2014 Army Invitational.
In the top singles flight, senior Sanne Louwers earned the No.7 seed going into the draw. She won her first round match over Ryan Brown from Bryant, 1-6, 6-3, 10-7, before falling in the round of 16 to Luize Stike of Seton Hall, 1-6, 6-2, 10-8. Sophomore Marine Dans also had a first round win, beating Annie DeMuno of Binghamton, before falling to Aarzoo Malik from UMass, 6-3, 6-0 in the round of 16.
In the 2nd singles draw, junior Caroline Konigsfeldt won in the round of 32, beating Callie Morlock of Marist, 6-1, 6-2, before dropping a match to the bracket's top seed, Ana Yrazusta from UMass, 6-0, 6-0. Sophomore Isabella Wagener fell to Yana Nikolaeva from Stony Brook in the first round, 6-1, 6-2. In the back draw, Wagener fell to Brezzy Maravich from Lehigh, 8-5.
And in the third singles draw, senior Nancy Zonneveld dropped her first round match to Dominique Mortier from St. Bonaventure, 6-2, 6-1, before finding success in the back draw. There, she beat Kirsten Scott from Albany, 8-7(3), before falling to Nikki Rohan from Marist in the quarterfinal rounds, 8-5. Senior Brittany Thompson also fell in the first round, losing 6-1, 6-0 to Brittany Collens of UMass, and dropped her first match in the back draw, 8-4, to Ashanti Campfield of Bryant.
In the doubles draw, Dans and Zonneveld teamed up in the top doubles bracket, falling in the first round to Julie Leong and Estella Wong from Fordham, 8-5.
Konigsfeldt and Louwers found more success in the bottom half of the bracket, as they beat Louise Dadouch and Nadia Smerguy from Stony Brook in the first round, 8-1. In the round of 16, they defeated Karly Pang and Claire Schitz of Marist, 8-5, before falling to Marion Bouillin and Ryan Brown from Bryant in the quarterfinals, 8-7(3). In the 2nd doubles bracket, Thompson and Weagener fell in the first round, 8-2 to Annie DiMuno and Paulina Tafler from Binghamton.
Up next, the Blackbirds will take part in the USTA Billie Jean King NTC College Invitational, Friday, October 3 to Sunday October 5 at the USTA Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.
