BROOKLYN, N.Y. - LIU Brooklyn redshirt junior Logan Keys and freshman Rasmus Hansen were named Northeast Conference Men's Soccer Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, on Monday afternoon. Keys was named Player of the Week after two impressive performances in goal for the Blackbirds, while Hansen takes home his second weekly honor and has helped LIU (7-5-2, 4-0-0 NEC) to its best start in NEC play since 1992.
Keys recorded back-to-back shutouts in net to help LIU Brooklyn to wins over NEC opponents Robert Morris and Saint Francis U over the weekend. The redshirt junior made five stops in a 1-0 Blackbirds' victory over the Colonials on Friday, then followed that performance up with six more stops - including a pair of point blank saves - for another clean sheet against the Red Flash on Sunday.
Keys has not allowed a goal in his last 288:02 of action, improved to 7-0-1 this season and now boasts a 0.37 goals-against average while helping the Blackbirds to a perfect 4-0 record in league play. Keys ranks second in the nation in save percentage (.912) and fifth in goals against average.
Hansen earns the second NEC Rookie of the Week honor of his career after scoring his team-leading sixth goal of the season on a 25-yard shot to lift the Blackbirds to a 1-0 overtime win against Saint Francis U. on Sunday. The freshman was also dangerous in LIU's game against Robert Morris on Friday, totaling a match-high five shots, including four on goal in a 1-0 win over the Colonials.
The Greve, Denmark native is tied for first among freshman and second overall in the NEC with six goals on the year. Hansen also ranks second on the circuit with 15 points.
LIU Brooklyn returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 25 with a match at Central Connecticut. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
