BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU Brooklyn men's soccer team heads to Fairfield, Connecticut on Friday, October 30 for its matchup against Sacred Heart at 3:00 p.m. On Sunday, November 1, it's Senior Day at LIU Field. The Blackbirds face off against Georgia Southern at 2:00 p.m. Prior to the match, LIU will honor the six seniors on its roster: Tyler Draovitch, Raffi Gregorian, Nahuel Medina, Tanner Sica, Jacob Smith and Keaton Sprague.
LAST TIME OUT
LIU Brooklyn continued its red-hot start to Northeast Conference play with a convincing 3-0 win over Central Connecticut on Sunday. Sophomore Naeem Charles scored a goal and registered an assist in the win, which moved the Blackbirds to 5-0 in NEC play for the first time since 1992. The victory was the fourth straight shutout for LIU, the first time that feat has been accomplished since the 2003 season. It is the first time that the Blackbirds have won four straight shutouts since 1988.
ABOUT THE BLACKBIRDS
Freshman Rasmus Hansen continues his impressive inaugural season with the Blackbirds, as he scored LIU's first goal against the Blue Devils to give him a team-best seven markers on the year. Redshirt junior Logan Keys needed to make just one save in LIU's win over CCSU but nonetheless picked up his sixth shutout of the year and moved his record to an impressive 8-0-1 on the season. Keys has allowed just three goals all season and ranks among the national leaders in goals-against average (0.33) and save percentage (.914).
ABOUT THE PIONEERS
Sacred Heart (1-10-1, 0-5 NEC) lost to the St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers Sunday afternoon, 3-0. Sophomore Dylan Santos has three of the Pioneers' six goals on the season, scoring the lone goals in Sacred Heart's matches against Saint Francis U. and Saint Peter's. The Pioneers goalkeeper, senior Tucker Hackett, boasts 53 saves on the season and one shutout victory.
ABOUT THE EAGLES
Georgia Southern enters Friday's contest against NJIT at 4-6-1 on the year and 1-1-0 in league play. Georgia Southern picked up a 1-0 win over Appalachian State last week to earn its second league win of the season. The Eagles took both the Offensive and Defensive Sun Belt weekly awards after their wins over Howard and Jakcsonville, outscoring their opponents 7-0. Senior keeper Jack Falle won the defensive award with two clean sheets, while sophomore midfielder/forward Nick Wells took the offensive award with three assists in the two victories.
ALL-TIME SERIES RECORD
The Blackbirds are 6-9-2 against the Pioneers, after their matchup last season, when LIU defeated Sacred Heart, 3-1. This Sunday will be the first time the Blackbirds have faced the Eagles.
UP NEXT
LIU will host its final regular season match next Sunday, Nov. 8 at 1:00 p.m. against borough rival St. Francis Brooklyn at LIU Field. The Blackbirds have already clinched a spot in the NEC Tournament, which is set to take place on Nov. 13-15.
