SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The LIU Brooklyn women's cross country team tied for eighth place at the Northeast Conference Championships, hosted by Bryant University on Saturday afternoon.
The Blackbirds were led by sophomore Esther Jean-Louis, who crossed the line at 19.12.7 and averaged a mile time of 6:10.6. Jean-Louis capped off a solid sophomore season Saturday, after snagging 27th of 78 overall competitors.
Freshman Shayla Wigand was the second Blackbird to cross the line. Wigand concluded a successful rookie campaign after finishing the race in 19:46.2, and averaging a mile time of 6:21.4.
Sophomores Kharyn Ethridge and Adjovi Simpini placed third and fourth on the Blackbirds roster, finshing with times of 20:28.5 and 20:34.3, respectively. Junior Alison Doway crossed the line next, at a time of 21:55.8. While sophomore Zaahira Deboise was behind Doway, finishing with a time of 22:59.7.
Nerene Aberdeen, Niteesa Brooks, Anghie Hall were the final finishers for LIU, crossing the finish line at 24:19.0, 24:33.0 and 25:13.6, respectively.
Sacred Heart won the team title for the third year in a row, while Central Connecticut's Brittany Mendelson was the top individual finisher (17.38.4).
