BROOKLYN, N.Y – This weekend, the LIU Brooklyn men's soccer team begins Northeast Conference play with games against Fairleigh Dickinson and Bryant. The Blackbirds will face off against the Knights on Friday, Oct. 9 in Hackensack, N.J. at 7:00 p.m., and will return to LIU Field to host Bryant on Sunday, Oct. 11 starting at 1:00 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The Blackbirds defeated NJIT, 1-0, last Wednesday evening at LIU Field. After a scoreless first half, redshirt freshman Romario Guscott scored the lone goal of the game, giving LIU its third victory of the season going into NEC competition.
ABOUT THE BLACKBIRDS
Freshman Rasmus Hansen is leading the Blackbirds' offense, recording five goals and two assists in non-conference play. Redshirt freshman Romario Guscott has also been an offensive threat for LIU, having scored three goals. Sophomore keeper Cole Palmer has recorded 19 saves, while senior keeper Logan Keys is close behind with 12 saves as conference play begins.
ABOUT THE KNIGHTS
Freshman forward Javen Palmer has been a key player for the Knights (2-6-1) in their non-conference, scoring three goals and one assist. The London native won NEC Rookie of the Week in September, after scoring twice to give Fairleigh Dickinson a victory against then No. 21 American. Sophomore keeper Matthew Weigner boasts 49 saves for the Knights so far this season going into Friday's matchup.
ABOUT THE BULLDOGS
Senior Brett Larocque and sophomore Thomas Binder have been offensive leaders for Bryant (2-5-2), with Larocque recording four goals and Binder having three goals so far this season. Both forwards also have two assists as the Bulldogs head into NEC competition. In goal for Bryant is senior keeper Chris Knaub, who has 26 saves to his credit.
ALL-TIME SERIES
The Blackbirds shutout the Knights last season, 1-0, after falling to Fairleigh Dickinson in 2013 by the same margin, bringing LIU's all-time series record against the Knights to 27-31-4.
Last year, Bryant was able to score in overtime against LIU, giving the Bulldogs a 2-1 victory over the Blackbirds. The last time LIU defeated Bryant was in 2011, when the Blackbirds were able to edge the Bulldogs, 4-3. The all-time series stands at 3-3-1 between the two teams going into Sunday's game.

The Blackbirds will host NEC rivals Robert Morris and Saint Francis University next weekend at LIU Field. LIU goes up against the Colonials on Friday, Oct. 16 at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18 is Alumni Day for the Blackbirds, as they face the Red Flash at 1:00 p.m.
