Final Results
BRONX, N.Y. - This Friday, the LIU Brooklyn women's cross country team took part in the Metropolitan Championships, hosted by Fordham University. The Blackbirds, along with 13 other teams competed in the 5K that was held in Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
Sophomore Esther Jean-Louis led the LIU squad, finishing 34th overall. Jean-Louis crossed the finish line with a time of 20:22.1, averaging a mile time of 6:33. Freshman Shayla Wigand was the second Blackbird to finish, posting a time of 21:33.3 and an average mile time of 6:55.9.
Meanwhile, sophomore classmates Adjovi SImpini and Kharyn Ethridge were the third and fourth members of the LIU roster to cross the line. Simpini finishing with a time of 22:05, and Ethridge with a time of 22:19.1.
The final three Blackbirds to complete the 5K were Zaahira Deboise, Anghie Hall and Niteesa Brooks, crossing the lines with times of 25:17, 26:36.3 and 27:06.1, respectively.
Rutgers won the team title on Friday. Senior Scarlet Knight, Paige Senatore, earned the individual victory, posting a time of 18:05.2. LIU Brooklyn finished 12th in overall competition.
The Blackbirds will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 17 at the 49th Albany Invitational.
