2015 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Bracket
BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU Brooklyn men's soccer team is headed to Piscataway, New Jersey to take on Rutgers University in the opening round of the 2015 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship, it was announced today by the NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Committee. The Blackbirds (11-5-4, 7-0-0 NEC), who earned an automatic bid into the field of 48 teams by winning the Northeast Conference championship title yesterday, will take on the Scarlet Knights this Thursday, Nov. 19 at Yurcak Field.
Earning the program's 14th NCAA tournament berth and first since the 2004 season, LIU Brooklyn is set to join the field of 48 after winning two thrilling back-to-back shootouts in the NEC Tournament this past weekend, under the direction of 2015 NEC Coach of the Year TJ Kostecky. The Blackbirds were crowned the 2015 Northeast Conference Tournament champions Sunday afternoon, punching their ticket to the NCAA College Cup by besting the No. 2 seeded Saint Francis University. NEC Tournament MVP Logan Keys made a pair of crucial saves in the semifinal and championship shootouts to clinch the title for LIU.
The Scarlet Knights will be making their 17th NCAA Tournament appearance as a program, and the first since their run in 2011, when they advanced to the third round of of the tournament. Rutgers enters the tournament at 12-6-1 overall and tied for third in the Big Ten Conference with a 4-4-0 mark. The Scarlet Knights defeated Northwestern, 2-0, in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals before falling in the semifinal round to Ohio State, the Big Ten regular season champions.
