BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU Brooklyn women's bowling team is set to travel to Houston, Texas this weekend to compete in the SHSU Kat Klash.
The Kat Klash will be the final tournament for LIU until the new year, as the Blackbirds will return to competition in January of 2016, following the tournament.
The tournament will begin on Friday, Dec. 4 and run until Sunday, Dec. 6. There will be ten total teams, including the No. 14 Blackbirds, in attendance. No. 4 Nebraska, No. 8 Stephen F. Austin, No. 9 Central Missouri, No. 24 Adelphi, Grambling State, Jackson State, Louisiana Tech, Texas Southern and host, No. 4 Sam Houston State will all be competing at Emerald Lanes.
LIU last saw action at the UMES Hawk Classic, where they concluded the three-day event with a reord of 8-7.
Lauren McKowen had a standout performance during the six matches on Saturday afternoon at the Classic. The sophomore earned a ninth ranking out of 137 bowlers for her average of 204.67 on the day.
Senior Natasha Bidwell was also a top performer, earning a total pinfall of 936 over the course of just five matches on Saturday. The fourth-year Blackbird averaged a 187.20 on the afternoon.
The 29-18 Blackbirds look to extended their three-game win streak this weekend, after defeating No. 10 Delaware State, No. 21 Tulane and, NEC rival, No. 2 Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday. LIU went 3-0 on the final day of competition to close out the UMES Hawk Classic.
LIU finished ahead of three Northeast Conference opponents at the UMES Hawk Classic, falling behind just one member, No. 13 Saint Francis U. after three days of competition.
Competition in Houston will open on Friday with six sets of five-game baker matches. Play will begin at 9:30am.
