BROOKLYN, N.Y. - For the second time this season, sophomores Jenn Peters and Tori Shinkowitz were named the Northeast Conference Offensive and Defensive Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week, it was announced by the league Monday.
Peters continued to light up the field and make her mark on the NCAA leaderboard for the Blackbirds last week. Peters netted six goals in LIU Brooklyn's 17-9 win over Delaware State on Monday. The sophomore added two assists, two ground balls and one caused turnover. The Slate Hill, N.Y. native scored half of LIU goals in a 19-8 loss against Pac-12 foe Oregon three days later. Peters added two assists, one ground ball, and one caused turnover. Nationally, Peters ranks first in points per game (5.50) and second in goals per game (4.25). She is tied for ninth in goals (34) and tied for twelfth in points (44).
Shinkowitz was the cornerstone of the Blackbird defense this past week. The sophomore was instrumental in holding Delaware State's attack at bay and allowing only nine goals. Shinkowitz scooped up two ground balls, caused three turnovers, won five draw controls, and added an assist in the Blackbird victory. Against Oregon, Shinkowitz helped limit the Ducks's top scorer to only one goal and one assist. Shinkowitz picked up two ground balls, caused four turnovers and won three draw controls on the afternoon.
The Blackbirds take on Saint Mary's in their final nonconference game tonight at 4:00 p.m. at LIU Field.
