Women's Golf Finishes Second at NEC Championship

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -
The LIU Brooklyn women's golf team fell just short of winning its fourth-straight Northeast Conference Championship on Sunday, placing second by three strokes at the LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla. 

The Blackbirds, who battled back from sixth place on day one and were third coming into the final round, carded their best round of the tournament, a 304 for a total of 942. Winner Fairleigh Dickinson, which also shot a 304, finished three strokes ahead with 939. Wagner was third with 948, followed by Sacred Heart, Saint Francis U., Central Connecticut and St. Francis Brooklyn.

Senior Cristina Felip led LIU Brooklyn with a fifth place finish, matching her second round score of 75 on day three for a total of 229. She finished with 34 pars, four birdies and was one-over on par-five holes.

Junior Victoria Fagan also had a career day, tying for sixth with a total of 234. She dropped five strokes on the final round to card a three-over 75. She parred 33 total holes and led LIU in par-3 scoring, with three birdied holes.

Junior Marisol Doglioli shot a 78 on the final day and was two strokes behind Fagan with 236, food enough to tie for 10th. She led in the field in par-3 scoring with an average of 3.17 per hole with one birdie.

Senior Brianna Maynard made a six-stroke improvement in the final round, and finished tied for 18th with a total of 247 and had one birdie. Senior Alice Boothroyd was one stroke back in a tie for 21st and one birdied one hole as well.

Fairleigh Dickinson's Gabriela Santini earned medalist honors with a three-round score of 224.
