BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The LIU Brooklyn men's soccer team recently led a pair of youth clinics for two local area teams in April. The Blackbirds first traveled to Coney Island on April 10 to conduct a clinic with the Brooklyn Italians soccer team, before leading another in Flatbush on April 15 with the Central Brooklyn Soccer Club.
Approximately 70 kids were coached by the LIU Brooklyn men's soccer players between the two events. Both were well received by the kids, their parents and the directors of each club.
"The clinic that the LIU Brooklyn men's soccer team put on was a great experience for our young players," said Dominic Casciato, the Director of Coaching for the Brooklyn Italians. "Getting to train alongside Division I athletes was a real opener for some of them. They all have aspirations to play at the Division I level once they get to college, and now they know how good that level is."
Dario Trujillo, the Director of Coaching at the Central Brooklyn Soccer Club, agreed that the clinic was a valuable experience.
"The LIU Brooklyn visit was an amazing experience for our kids," Trujillo said. "They thoroughly enjoyed working with the LIU-Brooklyn coaches and players and were actively involved throughout."
These clinics are part of the Blackbirds' spring focus on "Unity and Community" both within their team, and with the larger Brooklyn soccer community.
