NEC Release
BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU Brooklyn women's cross country team was selected to finish tenth in the Northeast Conference this season, after the results of the league's coaches poll were released on Friday.
The Blackbirds return three letterwinners and welcome seven newcomers to the squad, making LIU one of the youngest teams in the field.
The top returner for LIU is sophomore Esther Jean-Louis, who lead the Blackbirds in her rookie season and was the top finisher in the Northeast Conference Championships for the team in 2014. She placed 50th overall, crossing the finish line with a time of 19:59.96 and an average mile time of 7:02.4.
Two-time defending champion Sacred Heart was unanimously selected to win its third-straight Northeast Conference championship.
The Blackbirds will open their season on Saturday, Sept. 5 at the Monmouth Cross Country Kick-Off at Thompson Park in Lincroft, N.J.
