RESULTS
FAIRFIELD, CONN. – The LIU Brooklyn women's cross country team competed at the Fairfield Leeber XC Invitational Saturday morning. Fairfield University, the host of the 5K, and four other squads Sacred Heart, Wagner, Bridgeport and Concordia (N.Y.) were all in attendance.
The Blackbirds were led by freshman Shayla Wigand who finished eighth overall, with a time of 20:14.67. This is the second race of the season that Wigand placed in the top 10.
After leading the Blackbirds two weeks ago at the Nassaney Invitational, sophomore, Esther Jean-Louis placed right behind Wigand at 12th overall. Jean-Louis finished the 5K with a time 20:34.31
The Blackbirds third finisher was sophomore, Adjovi Simpini, who placed 18th overall. Simpini crossed the line with a time of 21:28.05. Behind her was freshman, Zaahira Deboise, who finished at 24:33.31.
Nerene Aberdeen, Niteesa Brooks and Anghie Hall rounded out the LIU line-up. Aberdeen crossing the line at 24:50.72, Brooks at 26:56.01, and Hall at 26:58.90.
LIU finished fourth overall in team competition. The Blackbirds will be back in action next weekend at the Paul Short Run, held in Bethlehem, Pa. on Friday, Oct. 2.
