READING, Pa. - The LIU Brooklyn women's bowling team earned three wins in traditional games during the final day of the Kutztown Invitational. The No. 14 Blackbirds concluded the weekend at 6-4 to boost their record to 41-30 on the season.
LIU was one of 17 teams remaining for Sunday's competition. Several teams were forced into an early departure due to the winter storm, causing a change in schedule for the final day at KU.
Madison Lukosius was named to the All-Tounament Team after knocking down a total of 1,064 pins, and averaging a 212.8 over the five traditional matches.
The junior's highest pinfall came in the final match against No. 15 Valparaiso. Lukosius posted a 267, in the Blackbirds' 931 to 921 win over Crusaders.
LIU also defeated No. 17 Monmouth and Bethune Cookman on Sunday. The Blackbirds defeated the Hawks, 898 to 882, in a low-scoring match-up.
And for the second time this weekend, the Blackbirds defeated the Wildcats of Bethune Cookman, this time, 1045 to 919. Lukosius led the way with a 232, while Lauren McKowen also aided the team with a 215. Natasha Bidwell, who was honored in a senior celebration over the weekend, was right behind the two posting a 210 in the match.
The Blackbirds' sole loss on the day came against No. 9 McKendree, 965 to 1043. This was LIU and McKendree's second meeting this weekend, as the Blackbirds defeated the Bearcats during Friday's competition. McKowen posted the highest score in the loss at a 202. While Bidwell and Lukosius were both just one pin behind McKowen with a 201.
LIU will have two weekends off, before returning to Texas for the second time this season for the Stephen F. Austin Invitational. The Blackbirds will look for a repeat performance, after winning the tournament in Houston last year. The SFA Invitational will begin on Friday, February 12.
