STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The LIU Brooklyn women's track & field team concluded competition at the Boston University John Thomas Terrier Classic on Friday, Jan. 29. Senior Gabriella Ade-Onojobi had the lone gold finish of the day for the women's team.
Ade-Onojobi started the meet for the Blackbirds with an impressive performance in her signature event, the 60m hurdles. Clocking 8.57 in the event, the England native was less than 0.4 seconds from breaking the school record in the 60m hurdles, which was set by Jessie Gaines in 2011 and currently stands at 8.34.
In the 400m dash, junior Cassandra Jones sprinted to the finish line in 55.50, earning 12th place. Less than one second behind Jones was senior Stephanie Aidoo in 18th for the event at 56.11.
The 4x400m relay team of Elizabeth Adesanya, Aidoo, Baugh and Cassandra Jones now hold the LIU women's track & field record for the event. The women crossed the line at 3:40.92 to break the previous record of 3:42.34 set in 1999.
The current Northeast Conference Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, senior Cemorne Baugh, clinched ninth in a field of 74 runners and fifth of the collegiate competitors in the 500m dash with a time of 1:14.28. Fellow classmate Kyaira Wright-Harmon tied for second in the women's high jump, jumping 1.70m to close out the meet for the Blackbirds.
