ELMWOOD PARK, N.J. - The LIU Brooklyn bowling team had two successful days at the Fairleigh Dickinson Jamboree, going 3-2 in the Baker round Friday, and 3-1 in traditional play Saturday. In Friday's action, LIU had 4,783 total pins, and a pinball of 4,672 Saturday, for a two-day total of 9,455, behind host FDU and Sam Houston State.
Friday, the No. 13 Blackbirds opened with a loss to No. 21 Valparaiso, 906-881. LIU would rally to beat New Jersey City University next, 959 to 799, before falling to Saint Francis U., 1,007-900. The Blackbirds would finish the day beating two ranked opponents, No.22 Prairie View A&M (956-884) and No. 17 Kutztown (1,087-856).
In Saturday's action, LIU lost only one match, finishing with a 3-1 record. The Blackbirds opened with a win over Lincoln Memorial, 888-811, before falling to No. 16 Monmouth, 913-873. LIU finished on a two-match winning streak, beating No. 20 St. Francis Brooklyn 936-862, and Youngstown State, 935-852.
Junior Lauren McKowen bowled a 202 in LIU's win against SFBK, while sophomore Alyssa Balicki had the individual high, with a 214 against Youngstown State. Balicki led LIU individually on the second day, finishing with a 193.20 average in Saturday's play.
The Blackbirds wrap up action at the FDU Jamboree Sunday, October 30, with a total of 5-game baker, followed by a two round, best of seven baker.
