MILLSBORO, Del. – The LIU Brooklyn bowling team had three wins in three best of seven baker matches Sunday, to finish the UMES Hawks Classic 6-8, and in ninth place overall.
LIU opened Sunday's play with a 4-2 win over No. 20 St. Francis Brooklyn. The Blackbirds won the first game, 237-200, before dropping the next two, 160-151 and 235-194. But LIU came battling back and won the next three games straight to take the match win, 187-147, 199-182 and 243-173.
In the second match of the day, LIU had a big win, beating No. 9 North Carolina A&T, 4-0. The Aggies never had a shot, as the Blackbirds won four in a row, 187-162, 237-216, 180-150 and 196-187.
LIU wrapped up the weekend by beating Northeast Conference rival and No. 14 Sacred Heart, 4-1. The Blackbirds won three games in a row, 185-160, 202-169 and 205-189 before the Pioneers could get on the board. After SHU won the fourth game, 181-156, LIU came back and won the fifth game emphatically, 234-159, to take the match victory.
Up next, the Blackbirds take part in the first Northeast Conference Meet of the season, Saturday, December 3 to Sunday, December 4, in Wallingford, Conn.
