NEC Meet #1 - Day One Results
WALLINGFORD, Conn. - The LIU Brooklyn bowling team went 3-2 in traditional play on the first day of Northeast Conference Meet #1 Friday, finished with a total pinfall of 5,425, which ranks them third overall in the standings. Juniors Alyssa Balicki and Lauren McKowen led LIU on day one, with total individual pinfalls of 1,103 and 1,054, respectively.
The Blackbirds opened the day with the NEC Preseason favorites to win it all, No. 7 nationally-ranked Fairleigh Dickinson University. And No. 13 LIU pulled off the upset, beating FDU, 1,086-918. Senior Tori Burkins led the Blackbirds, bowling a 241, while junior Kristina Genova had a 239, and sophomore Kayla Johnson bowled a 219. LIU followed that up with a win over Duquesne, 846-769.
The Blackbirds fell in the third match of the day, to No. 19 Saint Francis U., 1,002-858. Bowling against the bye, LIU added 850 pins to their total, before dropping their fourth match of the day. The Blackbirds fell to No. 11 Sacred Heart, 926-893.
LIU capped the day with a win, beating Caldwell, 892-840. Freshman Tyler Karpinecz led the Blackbirds in the win, bowling a 209, while Madison Lukosius had a 201.
The Blackbirds continue NEC action Sunday, December 4 with Baker matches.
