STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The LIU Brooklyn women's track and field team concluded conference competition with an impressive showing at the 2016 Northeast Conference Championships on Saturday, finishing second in the league behind defending champion Sacred Heart. Winning seven events on the second day of competition, the Blackbirds garnered 143 points, just seven points shy of the title and nearly double Central Connecticut's, who came in third with 72 points.
In the first event of the day for the Blackbirds, Gabriella Ade-Onojobi captured her second 60m hurdles title. As the top seed in the event, the London native crossed the line at 8.51.
Cassandra Jones was named the Most Outstanding Women's Sprinter following her gold performance in the 500m dash, crossing the line at 1:14.18, an Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) qualifying time.
A new meet record was set by Stephanie Aidoo with her 24.48 time in the 200m dash, winning gold in the event and adding another 10 points to LIU's score. Aidoo then went on to take silver in the 400m dash, clocking 56.20. It was fellow teammate Elizabeth Adesanya who placed first with her time of 55.97, a personal best in the event.
Anise Cuffee spearheaded the Blackbirds' one-two-four finish in the 60m dash. Cuffee crossed the finish line at 7.64 to claim first with Ade-Onojobi in second, just 0.04 second behind her. Jones placed fourth overall clocking 7.80. The top two flew to ECAC qualifying times.
In field action, Kyaira Wright-Harmon took gold in both the high jump and triple jump, which earned the senior her second consecutive Field Athlete of the Meet honor. She was victorious in the high jump with a mark of 1.67m. In the triple jump, she jumped 11.80m, defending her title from last season.

The NCAA Indoor Championships are set to take place at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama from Wednesday, March 9 through Saturday, March 12. The Blackbirds will begin their outdoor season at the Coastal Carolina Invite starting on Thursday, March 3 in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
