ORLANDO, FLA. – The LIU Brooklyn baseball team fell to the University of Central Florida Saturday afternoon, 5-2. With the loss, the Blackbirds move to 3-9 on the season, while UCF improves to 9-7.

The Knights got on the board early on in the game, with a lead-off solo home run in the bottom of the second inning. A walk and a single put two more runners on base, and a one-out home run cleared the bases, putting UCF up, 4-0. After a rough second inning, LIU starter Baylor LaPointe settled in, and wouldn't let another UCF run score.

LIU got on the board in the top of the sixth frame. Senior Brian Lamboy led off with a walk, and sophomore Dom Paiotti advanced him with a single through the right side. Freshman Andy Camilo had the RBI ground out one batter later to make it 4-1.

UCF added one more run to the total in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI double. LIU answered by adding a run of its own in the top of the ninth. Freshman Kyle Ruth had the RBI single to score the run, cutting the lead down to 5-2, but it wouldn't be enough, as the Blackbirds fell to the Knights.

Sophomore Baylor LaPointe (1-2) had the loss on the mound for LIU, giving up four runs in 5.0 innings, while striking out four. Freshman William Jackson III had three innings of relief for the Blackbirds, striking out four and giving up just one run.

Freshman Kyle Ruth led the Blackbirds at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Sophomore Dom Paiotti was 2-for-3 at the plate, while seniors Luis Rios and Brian Lamboy each had runs scored for LIU.

Up next, the two teams conclude the series with a Sunday game. The start time, originally scheduled for 1 p.m., has been moved up to 10 a.m. due to inclement weather forecasted.
