BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU Brooklyn women's lacrosse team will conclude regular season competition this weekend on LIU Field. In a pair of NEC matchups, the Blackbirds will host Bryant and Central Connecticut on Friday, April 29 and Sunday, May 1.
ABOUT THE BLACKBIRDS
The Blackbirds have yet to win a league tilt this season and are 4-11 overall, but they lead the conference and sit 24th in the nation with 12.00 goals per game.
The team also holds the top free-position percentage in the country (58.5), and sits second in the NEC in draw controls per game (11.8), points per game (16.07) and ground balls per game (16.93).
Jenn Peters continues to rank atop of the nation's best with 51 goals, which is ninth in the NCAA. Peter's also leads the country with a 73.7 free-position percentage. All the while, the junior maintains a league-best 57 points.
The Blackbirds will honor their two seniors, Alexis Maldonado and Shannon Morris, on Sunday prior to the draw against Central Connecticut.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION: BULLDOGS
Bryant (10-4) remains tied for first place in the NEC with two games to play, as Robert Morris and Wagner also sit at 4-1 in the league.
With Samantha Santeramo's individual league-leading save percentage (.543) and goals-against average (7.21), the Bulldogs have been able to establish themselves as the top scoring defense in the NEC.
Freshman Jess DeMeo has been dominant all season. The reigning NEC Rookie of the Week is coming off of her fourth game with at least three goals over the last six outings.
Junior Shannon Sullivan has registered two goals in consecutive games and has tallied multiple points in five-straight contests.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION: BLUE DEVILS
Central Connecticut dropped to 3-11 overall and 2-3 in league play with a 13-4 loss to Bryant last Friday.
The Blue Devils, another defensive mind, continues to receive quality play from their freshman net minder Jackie Branthover. Branthover has contributed to most of the team's overall league-leading save percentage of .462, starting in all 14 games for the Blue Devils.
Senior Madison Hughes leads CCSU in point (22g, 13a). While Sophomore Kylie Sullivan is ten behind with nine goals and an impressive 16 assists on the year.
