BROOKLYN, N.Y. - LIU Brooklyn's Anna Grigoryan was named Northeast Conference Women's Tennis Player and Rookie of the Week, it was announced by the league on Tuesday. This marks the freshman's first league honors.
Grigoryan established herself in No. 1 singles this past weekend, leading the Blackbirds in tough matches, while tallying notable wins in the spot.
In a repeat matchup of last year's NEC Championship on Saturday, the freshman defeated 2014-15 NEC Player of the Year, Ryan Brown of Bryant. Grigoryan came out on top, 7-6 (5), 6-2, then came back the following day to post a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Seton Hall's Luize Strike.
The Moscow native also paired up with Caroline Koenigsfeldt to collect an impressive No. 1 doubles wins against the Bulldogs' tag-team of Marion Bouillin and Ryan Brown, 7-5.
Grigoryan and the rest of the Blackbirds will conclude regular season competition this weekend with two conference matches, competing at Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday, April 9 and at Wagner on Sunday, April 10.
