BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU Brooklyn women's lacrosse team will open up its Northeast Conference schedule this weekend, taking a western Pennsylvania road trip to take on both Robert Morris and Saint Francis U.
The Blackbirds are set to face the Colonials first on Friday, April 8 at 3:00 p.m.
After that, the team will then head to Loretto to take on the Red Flash on Sunday, April 10 at 12:00 p.m.
ABOUT THE BLACKBIRDS
LIU concluded non-conference competition at Iona last weekend, after falling in a wire-to-wire battle with the Gaels, 14-11.
Six Blackbirds contributed goals in the contest, including Jenn Peters (3), Rorie Crum (3), Tori Shinkowitz (2), Mary McQueen (1), Carlie Robinson (1) and Jayde Sains (1).
Peters, a junior, continues to lead the team in points with 41 (35g, 6a), and is currently tied for eighth in the NCAA with 3.50 goals per game.
Virginia Gibbons earned the start in goal for the Blackbirds. Despite the loss, the freshman posted 10 saves in the matchup. So far in her rookie campaign, Gibbons maintains a 9.96 GAA and a .467 save percentage.

"We are excited to start our 'second' season this weekend in Pennsylvania," head coach Allison Hanley said. "Our team is used to being on the road this year, so it's only fitting that we start off NEC play with a big trip."
"The team is feeling prepared and we are looking forward to setting the tone for conference play," she added.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION: COLONIALS
Also wrapping up non-conference play was the 4-5 Colonials, earning a 18-4 victory over Delaware State, to open a three-game home stand.
Katie Breeze, Corey Karwacki & Jessica Karwacki each scored three goals in the matchup. While Maggie Stella led the team with four of the Colonials 11 caused turnovers.
Senior Brittany Byerly leads the Colonials in points, with 24 on the season (17g, 7a).
Classmate, Jessica Karwacki is the NCAA's all-time leader in draw controls, currently with 595 draw controls in her career, and 58 this season.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION: RED FLASH
Saint Francis U., who currently holds a 3-6 record, will begin NEC play the same day LIU faces RMU. The Red Flash will host Sacred Heart in their first conference match of the season on Friday, April 8.
The most recent matchups for the Red Flash were against St. Bonaventure and Delaware State. SFU defeated the Bonnies in a statement win, 16-14, and trumped Delaware State, 20-6, heading into the weekend on a two game winning streak.
Tied for the most points on the team are Sarah Mahon (19g, 6a) and Jessica Fischetti (17g, 8a), both in their second year.
Heather McKee has seen the majority of time in the cage for the Red Flash, posting 55 saves on the season and earning a .337 save percentage.

The Blackbirds will return home for a pair of NEC matchups. LIU will host Mount St. Mary's and Wagner on Friday, April 15 and Sunday, April 17, respectively.
