NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – The LIU Brooklyn women's track and field team took second at the Northeast Conference Outdoor Championship on Sunday, May 8. Sacred Heart defended its title, earning its second consecutive NEC crown with a total of 178 points. LIU came in second with 148 points, followed by Robert Morris in third with 80 points.
In the 100m hurdles, the women had a 1-2-4 finish, earning a total of 23 points in the event. Gabriella Ade-Onojobi took the title with her 13.93 performance, followed by Shantae McDonald in second with a time of 13.99 and Alea Stevens came in fourth clocking 14.26.
Cassandra Jones out ran teammate Cemorne Baugh by 0.01 second to take the 400m crown, clocking 54.97 in the event. Coming in third is Elizabeth Adesanya with a time of 56.15 followed by Satima Chambers in sixth at 57.41.
The women's 100m title was claimed by Stephanie Aidoo in 11.86. In fourth place in the same event is McDonald clocking 12.22, followed by Anise Cuffee in sixth and Ade-Onojobi in seventh.
Stevens went on to earn gold in the 400m hurdles in 1:01.95, which was almost two seconds ahead of second place. Ade-Onojobi finished in fifth in the hurdles, while McDonald placed in the eighth spot in the final heat.
Five women competed in the final heat of the 200m dash, with Aidoo adding another first place finish on the day clocking 24.41. Behind Aidoo in second is Baugh at 24.51. Jones claimed fourth in the event with Chambers taking fifth and Cuffee finishing in eighth on Sunday.
In field action, Kyaira Wright-Harmon placed third in the triple jump, adding six points to the women's score with her mark of 11.48m.
The women took gold in the 4x100m relay by more than 0.5 seconds to earn ten points after crossing the line at 46.95 and then later won the title in the 4x400m relay to close out the meet.
