NEC Fall Commissioner's Honor Roll
SOMERSET, N.J. – The Northeast Conference announced its 2016 Fall Academic Award winners Thursday afternoon, including the fall Academic Honor Roll and the Commissioner's Honor Roll. 48 LIU Brooklyn student-athletes were honored by the conference for their work in the classroom.
The NEC fall Academic Honor Roll consists of 680 student-athletes league-wide with a 3.20 or better grade point average, a 3.7 percent increase from 2015. There were also 225 student-athletes named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll, recognizing those superior student-athletes with a 3.75 or better grade point average. The Commissioner's Honor Roll figure represents a whopping 31.6 percent increase from a year ago.
For the Blackbirds, 12 fall student athletes were recognized on the Commissioner's Honor Roll, for a 3.75 GPA or higher. Men's soccer had five honorees (Gregorio Mount, Frej Engberg, Ryan Herold, Logan Keys and Simen Hestnes), while women's soccer had four (Allegra Ondrejka, Madison Gomez, Ashley Drozd and Leslie Wrightington), and volleyball had three (Alex Larsen, Emily Magee and Filippa Hansson).
In total, 48 LIU Brooklyn student athletes were named to the NEC Fall Academic Honor Roll. Women's Soccer led the way with 20 student athletes being named to the honor roll, while men's soccer had 14 honorees and cross country had three. The NEC championship-winning volleyball team had the highest percentage of athletes honored, as 11 of 12 team members, or 92 percent of the team, made the honor roll.
