BROOKLYN, N.Y.- The LIU Brooklyn women's swimming team (2-0) will head into Manhattan for their first road meet of the young season, to face Columbia University, Friday, October 13th at 5 p.m.

The Blackbirds (2-0, 1-0 NEC) were dominant in the opening meet of the season, defeating both Manhattan College, 218-75, and NEC rival St. Francis Brooklyn, 174-103, in a two-day meet held at both Brooklyn pools last weekend. LIU Brooklyn won 12 of the 16 events on the slate.

Women's swimming, in only its third season at LIU Brooklyn, is now 3-0 lifetime against both Manhattan and St. Francis Brooklyn, and is 2-0 to start a season for the second time.

Freshman Amanda Peren was named Northeast Conference Co-Rookie of the Week following an outstanding debut performance. She won both the 200 individual medley (2:13.75) and the 100 backstroke (1:00.95), and led off the first-place 200 and 400 free relay teams.

Junior Briana Vega looks to be in midseason form already, winning three individual races (50 free, 100 free and 100 butterfly) and three relays (200 free, 400 free and 400 medley) in the tri-meet.

Sophomore Noemie Lacroix-Moreau, the defending 2017 NEC Champion in the 200 butterfly, won her signature event (2:15.56) by nearly five seconds over her competitor from Manhattan and almost seven seconds over her St. Francis Brooklyn opponent. She also swam in the winning 400 medley relay with Peren, Vega and junior Mads Cardigan.

Jeanne Touchette-McGowan, another impressive freshman, took first in the 200 freestyle (1:56.61), beating her nearest competitor by over 1.5 seconds and 200 backstroke (2:09.39), winning over Peren and Lacroix-Moreau. She also swam a leg of both winning freestyle relays, as did fellow newcomer Alyssa Juris.

Junior team captain Milly Furneaux won the 100 breaststroke and slotted second in the 200 breaststroke, with both races coming down to tenths of a second.

This will be the first-ever meeting between the Ivy League school in Morningside Heights, and LIU and will serve as Columbia's opening meet of the season. Columbia finished in sixth at the Ivy League Championships last year, while the Blackbirds placed fifth in the NEC last season.

Up next, the Blackbirds have a two-week break with action resuming on Saturday, October 28 in Fairfield, Conn., as the NEC's Sacred Heart hosts a tri-meet with Stony Brook University. The meet is slated to begin at 12:00 p.m.
