BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU Brooklyn men's soccer team (2-6-2, 1-0 NEC) is heads up to New Britain, Conn. today, Friday, October 13, for an important NEC match at 4 p.m., facing off against the Central Connecticut Blue Devils (4-6-2, 1-1 NEC).
LAST TIME OUT
The Blackbirds opened the 2017 Northeast Conference season with a 2-0 win at Sacred Heart last Sunday. Sophomore Giuseppe Barone and junior Rasmus Hansen had goals for the Blackbirds in the win, while freshman Anthony Sciola had two saves in the shutout. Hansen leads the team in scoring with 11 points (5 goals), followed by Romario Guscott (6 points) and Barone with five points.
SCOUTING THE BLUE DEVILS
Central Connecticut is coming off a 5-3 NEC victory over St. Francis University last Sunday, scoring the team's most goals in a match since 2015. The Blue Devils are led by sophomore midfielder Andres Albino, this week's NEC men's soccer player of the week, who tallied two goals and an assist in the win over Saint Francis U. Albino currently leads the Blue Devils in goals (5) and points (14). Seniors Ryan Taylor and DeShawn Parker each have four goals for CCSU and follow Albino in the scoring column with 10 and 9 points respectively.
LAST YEAR'S MATCHUP
After falling behind 1-0 early in the first half against CCSU, the Blackbirds came back with a vengeance and scored six unanswered goals in the period en route to a 7-2 blasting of the Blue Devils at LIU Field. The two conference rivals are currently 12-12-2 all-time, with the Blackbirds winning the last three matchups going into today.

The Blackbirds will enjoy a week off before hosting St. Francis University on Friday, October 20 at 6:30 at LIU Field. That match begins a furious finish of the final five NEC games in two weeks' time with a spot in the NEC Championships on the line.
