APALACHIN, N.Y. --- The LIU Brooklyn men's golf completed its third tournament of the fall Monday evening. The Blackbirds remained in 14th place at the Binghamton University/Matthews Auto Collegiate Invitational, ending in a tie for the spot with a team score of 42-over 618 (315-303).
All five LIU players stayed within four strokes of their first round totals, with three of the five bettering their scores. Leading the way was junior George Helsby and his dramatic turnaround. The third year player jumped 54 places on the individual leaderboard - from a tie for 72nd to a tie for 18th - after following a first round 81 with a team season low 4-over 68. Helsby totaled a two round score of 5-over 149.
Senior Kyle Maihi remained in the top 50 after shooting a second round 77 to finish at 11-over 155 (T-47th). Freshman Manuel Sosa ended the tourney tied for 60th at 13-over 157 (78-79), senior Victor Aronsson was two strokes back at 15-over 159 (80-79) and junior Daniel Reale was five back at 18-over 162 (79-83).
Freshman Jayden Brown's individual run ended with him tying for 82nd at 22-over 166 (83-83).
