Ronchel Named NEC Women's Co-Golfer of the Month

BROOKLYN, N.Y. --- For the second time in her young career, sophomore Carolina Ronchel has earned an in-season award from the Northeast Conference. The NEC named Ronchel its Women's Co-Golfer of the Month Wednesday afternoon, awarding the second-year player alongside Sacred Heart's Chelsea Sedlar.

The native of Huelva, Spain has excelled for LIU during the fall season, leading the Blackbirds in each of the team's three tournaments so far. She has placed in the top 12 each in event, including a season-best and career-best-tying third place showing at the Dartmouth Invitational in late September.

At the Dartmouth tournament, Ronchel put together the signature performance of her young Blackbird career. She shot an Even par 144 at the two-round invitational, carding a first round 69 and a second round 75. The even par score and the 69 were each career bests and the 69 was the second lowest round score in LIU history - three strokes short of former Blackbird Marisol Doglioli's 66 at the 2014 NEC Championships. In seven total rounds this fall, Ronchel is averaging a NEC-leading 76.0 per round.

An All-NEC Second Team selection as a freshman, Ronchel earned her first in-season honor in March when she was named NEC Women's Golfer of the Week during the spring season.

LIU will complete its fall schedule in two weeks at the Brown University Invitational from October 15-16 in Providence, R.I.
