KENOSHA, WIS. - The No. 16 LIU Brooklyn women's bowling team went 1-2 in bracket play on Sunday at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawk Classic, and 7-6 overall in three days. The Blackbirds carried a 188.3 scoring average and finished 14th overall in the event at Sheridan Lanes in Kenosha.
Individually, LIU senior Lauren McKowen ranked ninth overall at the event, carrying a 214.8 average to lead the team. Sophomore Tyler Karpinecz was next, holding a 197.5 average and freshman Sarah Florence, who had the high water mark for the the Blackbirds on the weekend with an individual high of 247, was next with a 190.6 average. Senior Kristina Genova ranked in the top 50 with a 188 average.
In the first match of bracket play on Sunday, LIU faced No.9 Sacred Heart for the second time this weekend, LIU fell 4-2, winning games two and three of a best of seven baker match.
Next up for the Blackbirds was another tournament rematch against the host school, No. 11 UW-Whitewater and after dropping game one, the teams tied at 201 in game two before LIU took four of the remaining five games to win the match 4.5-2.5 and avenge a Friday defeat.
Lincoln Memorial (Tenn.), whom LIU topped on Saturday was last on the agenda, but despite three strong games in the middle of the best of seven (243-180, 255-152 and 233-194), the Blackbirds fell in the last two games to lose the match and slot 14th out of 16 teams in the final standings.

LIU will be back on the road again next weekend with the UMES Hawks Classic in Millsboro, Del., hosted by No. 7 Maryland-Eastern Shore.
