BROOKLYN, N.Y. – LIU Brooklyn women's swimming first-year Jeanne Touchette-McGowan was named the Northeast Conference's Rookie of the Week, it was announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon. It is the first weekly honor for the freshman, and the second for the team this season. Classmate Amanda Peren earned the award in October.
Touchette-McGowan continued the solid start to her collegiate career last week at the Rutgers Invitational, posting a pair of times in the 200 backstroke and 200 IM that rank second on the NEC's 2017-18 top times list. The freshman dropped two full seconds in the 200 backstroke final from her prelim swim earlier that morning and her 2:02.32 time was fractions of a second off the school record. Additionally, Touchette-McGowan was the second fastest NEC swimmer at the meet in the 200 IM (2:07.33).
Senior Milly Furneaux was also recognized as an NEC Prime Performer, having posted two times in the 100 and 200 breaststroke that rank second best among the NEC times this season.
Up next, the Blackbirds take part in the ECAC Championships, December 1-3, in East Meadow, N.Y.
