BROOKLYN, N.Y. - LIU Brooklyn bowling freshman Kellie Frain was named the Northeast Conference's Rookie of the Week, it was announced by the league office Friday afternoon. It's the first weekly honor for Frain in her young career.
Frain led the LIU Brooklyn lineup, as well as all NEC rookie competitors, in overall frame average (20.14) while contesting the three-day UMES Hawk Invitational. Helping the Blackbirds to an 8-5 record, the 5-foot-8 freshman threw 56 strikes in 116 attempts (.483) en-route to an .871 filled frames percentage. She converted 90.0 percent of single-pin spare attempts and doubled on 48.5 percent of her chances. Frain's 201.2 traditional game average ranked 15th on the overall tournament leader board. The rookie righty kicked off Saturday's traditional team rounds with three consecutive 200 games, including a 223-pin performance in a win over NEC rival St. Francis Brooklyn and a 227 score in a triumph over Southland member Monmouth. Frain bowled 66 frames during baker matches, averaging 20.15 pins per frame during that portion of the event.
