DAY ONE RESULTS
STRATFORD, N.J. – The No. 16 LIU Brooklyn Women's Bowling team, the defending champions of the FDU New Jersey Jamboree, had a rough start on the first day of the 2017 event, coming in with a 2-3 team record after five baker matches. Still, with a 187.5 average, the Blackbirds are fourth in a field of 15 schools going into day two tomorrow.
In their first match, the Blackbirds had to face off with their hosts and conference foe, No. 8 ranked Fairleigh Dickinson, the highest-ranked team in the field in the preseason national poll. The Knights, 4-1 on the day, pulled out a low scoring match, 945-926.
Another Northeast Conference rival was up next for LIU, St. Francis Brooklyn, when the Blackbirds pulled their first win of the event, 919-861. Bethune-Cookman was next on the lanes and even with their lowest match total of the season to date, the Blackbirds had an easy 915-678 win to take the team's second straight match.
In the third match, the No. 15 Adelphi Panthers avenged a defeat from both teams' opening weekend tournament, throwing a 1024-975 victory over the Blackbirds, in the winner's only 1000-pin match of the day. LIU then closed out with their third NEC matchup of the day, the No. 9 Sacred Heart Pioneers.The Pioneers topped LIU, 1058-953, on their way to a perfect 5-0 on Friday,
FDU would finish the first day at the top of the standings with a 197.8 per game average, just in front of Sacred Heart for first by 0.7 pins.
