FINAL RESULTS
STRATFORD, N.J. – No. 16 LIU Brooklyn went 1-2 on the final day at the FDU New Jersey Jamboree, beating Franklin Pierce for the second time in two days to earn fifth place in a field of 15 schools. The Blackbirds held a 186.7 average and went 7-6 in the three-day event at 30 Strikes Lanes in Stratford, N.J.
Senior lefty Kristina Genova was named to the All-Tournament team with a 212.4 average, which was fourth among over 100 bowlers on the weekend.
The Blackhawks got out to a fast start in the first match on Sunday morning against No. 11 Monmouth, whom they topped a day earlier. LIU won the first three games of a best of seven, 234-213, 236-181 and 169-154, but LIU couldn't put away the Hawks, falling by 49 points in the seventh and final game of the traditional play match.
The first loss of the day took away the chance for the Blackbirds, the defending champions their NEC rivals' event, to finish in first, but it gave LIU a chance to face No. 15 Adelphi again after falling to the Panthers on Saturday. The middle match of the day went six games, with LIU winning games two and six, but the Panthers prevailed and would finish in third place overall.
Also in a rematch from Saturday, No. 22 Franklin Pierce would be the final opponent of the weekend. Despite throwing a 128 to lose the first game of the best of seven match, the Blackbirds ended with a 202 in game seven to win by 27 pins and take fifth place in the event.
In an all-NEC final, Sacred Heart (10-1 weekend) beat Fairleigh Dickinson (8-3 weekend) in the final 4-2, to win the tournament. The Blackbirds actually dropped the most pins over three days, 13,069 in a tournament high 70 games.
NEXT ON THE TARGET
The Blackhawks will be back on the road next Friday, traveling to Wisconsin-Whitewater for the three-day Warhawk Classic, November 10 through Sunday, November 12. LIU finished ninth overall out of 17 teams in last season's competition.
