2017 SFA Ladyjacks Invitational Results
HOUSTON, Texas – The LIU Brooklyn Bowling team wrapped up three strong days of play at the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks Invitational Sunday afternoon, finishing in ninth place overall, out of 23 teams. The Blackbirds finished the weekend with a 6-6 record, and a total team pin fall of 12,752. Senior Madison Lukosius earned All-Tournament Team honors for her performance in Saturday's traditional matches. Lukosius finished the weekend ranked sixth out of over 150 bowlers, with a total pin fall of 1,095, for a 219 average.
Saturday, the Blackbirds opened with a bye, and bowled a 981 against it. Senior Tori Burkins had a 227 in that frame, while Lukosius bowled a 203, her first of four 200+ games on the day.
In the second match of the day, the Blackbirds beat Jackson State, 962-862, behind a 233 from Lukosius. Another win followed for LIU, beating No. 19 Prairie View A&M, 1,005-965. Lukosius had her highest pin fall in this match, bowling a 258 to lead LIU, while junior Kristina Genova bowled a 236.
The Blackbirds then lost two close matches. First, LIU was beaten by Texas Souther, 991-918, despite 201s from both Burkins and Marlee Tyler. And then the Blackbirds fell to one of the top teams in the country, No. 4 Sam Houston State, 1,039-927. Freshman Tyler Karpinecz bowled a 238 to lead LIU, while Lukosius had a 211, ad Tyler chipped in with a 203.
Sunday, LIU had losses to two top-ten ranked teams in the championship bracket. In the first round, the Blackbirds lost to No. 5 Vanderbilt, 4-2 (212-161, 169-231, 214-159, 173-205, 256-153, 203-196). LIU then had to face off against No. 9 Maryland Eastern Shore, and lost to UMES, 4-0 (192-167, 176-161, 210-198, 201-181). LIU finished out the day with a win, however, beating No. 19 Prairie View A&M, 4-2 (175-197, 194-168, 193-171, 161-203, 208-198, 226-167).
Up next, the Blackbirds ready to take part in the second Northeast Conference meet of the season, Saturday, February 25 and Sunday, February 26, in Elmwood Park, N.J.
